What kind of control box do I need?

There are different kinds of control boxes to choose while buying a winch. How could I know which kind to choose?

Generally speaking, there is no big difference regarding the control box shape. You could choose a shape you like. We should pay attention to the inside of the control box, especially the relay or sometimes we call solenoid.

There are two kind of solenoid to choose while making an electric Winch control box. See photos as below.

This kind of solenoid is much cheaper, to save cost and get more customers, many distributors prefer to choose this kind of solenoid.

This kind of solenoid is in very good quality, not easy to break down.

Below is a customer's complain about such control box.

While trying to find out information on how to connect the winch I opened the control box. It had all the cable glands less than fingertight. Both cable nut and box nut. The two solenoids were attached by one of the four screws, and that screw was cross threaded. The other screws were simply not there and the solenoids were rattling when shaking the box. To fix that I had to disassemble it all, bend the aluminium connectors to fit and assemble it in the right order. I also had to find four short M6 screws that fitted the application. While doing this I also took care to leave a safe distance between the pooles and to put the radio receiver in it's intended position.

In a word, if you want to buy a good Off Road Winch, do not pay too much attention to the price. There are too many configurations that you could not see from the outside of the electric winch.
